A need for research on curbing major challenges in regulating SLT use has been long felt and subsequently highlighted in several sessions of the Conference of Parties (COP) of the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC). The sixth session of COP established a knowledge hub on SLT at the Indian Council of Medical Research – National Institute of Cancer Prevention and Research, India to fill this need gap.
Various intramural and extramural projects are ongoing at Global Knowledge Hub of SLT, ICMR-NICPR to reinforce the Smokeless tobacco regulation and its use.
“Effective implementation of tax and TAPS measures for prevention and control of smokeless tobacco in South East Asia Region” in collaboration with The international union against tuberculosis and lung disease, project focuses with the mission to strengthen the policy framework and to support the states to regulate the smokeless tobacco use and ultimately to the Nation.
